Personalised Nutrition Advice For Dogs

For dog parents who cook vegetarian or vegan food for their dogs and want to be 100% sure their dogs are getting everything they need for a healthy life.

Do you want to feed your dog a meat-free diet but need help making the change?

Does your dog have leishmaniasis or another disease that requires a change in diet, and you want to ensure that you feed him a balanced diet to help him get better quickly?

Maybe your dog is overweight, and you want to help him lose weight with a plant-based diet.

No matter your reason for switching your dog to a vegan or vegetarian diet, I can help.

And it doesn’t matter where you and your dog live. My nutritional advice also works online via Zoom or over the phone.

Dog nutrition without meat: is that even possible?

Yes, it is actually very good!

Contrary to the myth that a dog should still eat like a wolf, our dogs’ digestive tracts have adapted very well to human nutrition over the last few millennia.

This means dogs can digest starchy foods well and are no longer dependent on meat.

However, this does not mean you can simply leave out meat, and your dog will automatically feel better.

It’s essential to take a slow approach and look closely at what nutrients your dog needs to live a healthy and happy life.

And how do you pack all these essential nutrients into a plant-based eating plan that you can implement step by step?

Plant-based and in top shape with counselling

With my individual nutrition counselling for dogs, I will take you by the hand and guide you through switching to a vegan or vegetarian diet within four weeks.

This is how we will proceed:

You will fill out a questionnaire, and we will have a short phone call

First, I need to get to know your dog well, so I will ask for all the essential information about their breed, sex, weight, activity level, diagnoses, medications, and previous food. After that, we will have a short phone call or meet for a Zoom call to discuss your goals with the change in diet.

You will receive an individual feeding plan for your dog

Based on your dog’s individual data, you will receive a feeding plan as a table with the exact requirements of all essential nutrients. These include proteins, carbohydrates, fats/oils, vegetables, vitamins and amino acids.

You will receive recipe suggestions and a shopping list tailored to your dog’s needs

I will also send you recipe suggestions for a week with the exact quantities that a ration for your dog should contain. In addition, you will receive a shopping list to help you implement the recipes for a week.

After a week, we will discuss how it is going

We will talk on the phone or meet via Zoom to see how the first week of the diet change went. Is your dog eating his new food? Has there been any change in his stool? You can ask any questions and discuss any concerns, and I will help you find a solution.

You can email me for another three weeks with any questions that arise

Switching from conventional food to a plant-based diet takes time. Your dog’s digestion must adjust, and you must also get used to a new feeding routine. You can use my email support for another three weeks to ask questions or concerns.

Your dog and his health will thank you for the change in diet:

  • Your dog will start to smell better after just one week.
  • After three to four weeks, previous constipation will have gone.
  • After about four to six weeks, your dog’s digestive tract will have adjusted to the plant-based diet.
  • After six to eight weeks, your dog’s fur and skin will look better.
  • After about eight weeks, you will see a weight reduction on the scales in overweight dogs.
  • The immune system improves at different rates, usually taking a long time before an improvement can be seen.

Is that what you want, too?

‘Should I really feed my dog a meat-free diet?’ – I know what you're worried about.

A few years ago, I was in the same position as you: would my dog be okay without meat? Where could I get all the information I needed? And would I really follow through with the change?

Today, I feed my two dogs a mainly vegan diet and they are in great shape – despite suffering from leishmaniasis and blindness.

The good thing for you is that I’ve already gone through the whole process and delved so deeply into the topic of ‘vegetarian and vegan nutrition for dogs’ that I can support you with my expertise and my experience.

In doing so, I will make sure that you:

  • know exactly which nutrients your dog needs in what quantities every day
  • have a plan, including suitable recipes, to get you started
  • know how you can check your dog’s health yourself to some extent
  • always stay motivated because you can discuss any questions or concerns you may have directly with me by email

Shall we do it together?

My personalised nutrition counselling for dogs is right for you if:

  • you want to change your dog’s diet, ensure that he is getting all the nutrients he needs
  • you want to ask all your questions about the change in diet and tap into my expertise and experience
  • you want to ensure your dog is always doing well times during the change
  • you want the change in diet to be a complete success for you and your dog

Does that sound like you?

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can I start changing my diet with your support?

We can normally start within two weeks. Use the contact form to write to me. I will get back to you and we will discuss when to get started.

What if my dog has allergies or other intolerances?

I am also happy to advise you if your dog has allergies or intolerances. In both cases, the consultation will be slightly different than usual. For example, we should do an elimination diet. Just let me know which allergies or intolerances your dog has using the contact form. I will get back to you, and we will discuss how to proceed with your particular case.

I have several dogs – do I have to book a separate consultation for each one?

Of course, every dog is different, and this consultation aims to give you a completely individual plan for your dog. However, I am happy to discuss two dogs in one consultation. Just indicate in the contact form that you have two dogs. I will get back to you and discuss how to proceed.

Can I also give my dog ready-made food or do I have to cook myself?

If you want to implement my feeding plan, I recommend that you cook at least some of the food yourself. With ready-made food alone, it is impossible to have control over the nutrient composition.

During the consultation, I will be happy to give you tips on how you can combine cooking for your dog with cooking for you and your family.

Do you only advise me if I want to feed my dog a meat-free diet?

It is important to me that we at least reduce the amount of meat in your dogs’ food. If that’s your goal, I’m the right person for you. I believe we don’t have to be dogmatic about it and that the big goal is essential. So, of course, you are welcome to give your dog meat from time to time or replace the protein requirement with dairy products.

Would you also advise me if I wanted to feed my dog a gluten-free or carbohydrate-free diet?

If your dog has a grain allergy, I will be happy to advise you on changing his diet accordingly. If your dog does not have a grain allergy, I can advise you on alternatives if you wish, but to be honest, I do not consider a grain-free diet to be sensible. Grains are an essential source of energy for dogs.
